chanelling chanel

Chanel is amazing; any person who has ever even heard the word vogue will know that Chanel is amazing. Chanel is sleek; it is always forward fashion and will always be the definition of style.

They are the elite brand in creating what is chic high fashion and what will eventually be cool and filtered down through to department store fashion. In my opinion Karl Lagerfeld has done an amazing job of taking over as head designer and those reasons are three fold:

1. His clothes are impeccable

2. He takes most of his photos/directs the shoots

3. He has introduced me to Baptiste Giabiconi

Baptiste is gods’ gift to the world, this beautiful specimen has been taken under the wing of Lagerfeld and his become his muse. Baptiste is my dream boy and if I could look like anyone in the world, it would be him. Baptiste of course features prominently in Chanel’s latest ad campaign (with other muses Claudia Schiffer and Freja Beha). The ad campaign has been titled (Latin dreams) and was first brought to my attention in the April addition of Australian vogue. (if you have the issue it is the fold out in the very front cover).

The collection hit runways late last year and was in the show where lily Allen sang, there was a lot of hay. You know the one? Or possibly you don’t watch as much ftv as I do. The whole style of this shoot has a Latin/Spanish feel about it. A lot of dark black shaping and gathering with some obvious big double c’s thrown in, silk flowers and gold splattering on jackets and belts.

BAPTISTE
BAPTISTE AND FREJA

My favourite outfit is worn by Baptiste (of course) and is in the first photo I saw from this shoot. (see Baptiste and Freja walking down the stairs, I know that’s how I walk down stairs, I think they are going to a movie)

I have tried to recreate this outfit in the true style of pretapoorta…with no money but an ability to pull together things from my wardrobe. The hat is borrowed from my darling friend Ellen Virgona so see her for details on where to get a similar one. The jeans are cheap Monday, the belt is generic belt from lowes and I have added chains and rosary beads to recreate the Chanel belt look. Generic white shirt, police boots, blazer.

Yes the outfit is not as good, it never will be. But I try. Go and find your favourite outfit in a magazine and try to recreate. No pint sitting looking at neta porta wishing you had that kind of money. You don’t. Unless you are Jane Aldridge. And if you are, fuck you

Bludging 101

Hey internet! Sorry to those of you who are actually reading this for the lack of updates on my part (I'm sorry you had to be so over exposed to Alex, really sincerely) and I'm sorry for this one being a bit boring (I say 'a bit' I mean 'unbearably mind numbingly') but alas I have basically spent the entire day sitting around putting off Uni work and there really is no interesting outfit for that sort of thing.

Anyway: This outfit consists of an Ezibuy cardigan/sweater thing that I've had for years and while bland is the COMFIEST THING IN THE WORLD. I'm pretty sure my mum bought it for me... ANYWAY, the top is just a plain mens under top vest thing (bought from Anglicare Depo a few weeks ago, which means some old guy could have legit DIED in it which is creepy, but I've washed a few times so it's all good) and my shorts are stretch denim Cotton On. I think they were around the $15-$30 mark because I never buy anything even vaguely close to expensive from that shop. The shoes I shoved on, to take the dog for a walk (see I told you I was procrastinating) were found in Alex's ever fruitful drama department last year and spent a brief period of time sitting in our friend's wardrobe never being worn until I demanded they make the move to mine. They've barely left my feet since.

All in all a comfortable but boring outfit.

I'll be back once this next wave of assignments are done and I promise to be wearing something home acid washed and bedazzled just for you guys (all two of you, who I don't know personally).

lemonade

So the weather in Sydney has been perfect lately. Cold enough for layering, warm enough for spending all your time outside. And I've been craving homemade lemonade like crazy for about a week.

(dress, cape, jacket, slip; vintage, shoes; Naot)

This outfit is brilliantly comfortable. I'm pretty sure the pink cape-like thing -my new favourite vintage item - is actually vintage lingerie given the tag reads "Cuddles...after dark", which makes me laugh because to me it is so far from sexy. I mean frilly sleeves and pussybow collars scream sex appeal right? The dress is a staple, one which either elicits compliments or "Um, Roslyn, what is this" to which I silently scream "MCQUEEN" or "RODARTE" because I attempt to validate my limited knowledge of fashion with my limited knowledge of the runway shows I stalk via Style.com (A highly pretentious response, but we have a fashion blog, so what do you expect?)

There is currently a Laura Marling concert being played on TripleJ, so I don't think procrastination has ever been easier. Life is good.

the winds are changing

So once again the seasons are changing, I see people starting to don their odd little cardigans and sweaty businessmen clutching their coats on overly heated trains. Winter is coming, and I have feeling she is going to be a bitch-I’m so excited. Accessorising is key in these transitional periods as to avoid the dreaded clutching of clothing or even worse the jumper tied around the waist (we have all done it. I have done it. It’s not okay (usually)). This outfit was perfect for today’s weather, not to hot and not too cold-plus it works with or without the jacket.

The pants are vintage women’s dress pants and actually a teal colour, they are from an opshop in Rockdale. The shirt is just an average dress shirt that I have acquired over the years; the boots are my combat boots that I got from my uncle. The jacket is my favourite part of the outfit and it’s my little sisters. It’s a woman’s coat-again yay! It was made especially for my little sister out of real leather in Italy <3

Take this colder months to enjoy accessorising and generally being a massive wanker ^_^

COVERALLS

My dad decided to go to the country for the week so I decided this would be a good time to go over, spend some time alone, sort through some uni work…invite all my friends over, get drunk, watch xanadu and steal all of his clothing which has become so disgusting that I have decided it is cool again. Oh my I’m so productive.

So one of the items I have stolen is my dads coveralls. They are so old that they have become a faded blue colour and are also covered in paint. for all you stalkers and wanting to recreate the look they are ‘king gee’ and I like to wear them with my loony tunes tee shirt and then belted with a simple thin black silver buckled belt (then looped under). I love it. Its old school, its camp and also has a theme of aviation. Down the line I will eventually add extra shoulder pads ^_^

Now look at photos of my sister wearing the coveralls, as she has the hair to pull it off!

VINTAGE SPREE

I went on a little op-shopping spree over the weekend at my two favourite places ‘anglicare depot’ and Rockdale. (also known as wogdale) I’m wearing an item from each in this blog ^_^

The blazer!-the blazer is actually a women’s coat but this has never stopped me before (most of the time it encourages me!) and I got it from Rockdale. Rockdale is down near the Sutherland shire aka THE SHIRE for all you who don’t know and it has some amazing second hand stores. There used to be awesome op shops near my house but it has seemed the public school girls in the area caught on to the fact that sometimes getting something from general pants is not ok so they raid the store (for things that look like they are from general pants) and leave me with the occasional blazer. So I travel down to Rockdale as it appears this infestation of public school girls has not occurred here. Rockdale is mainly infested with lads and therefore the style code for this area usually entails a lot of product to spike up your fringe in order to balance out your rats tail or mullet and finished off with some mike tn’s and general clashing hideousness (bar a few people) so nobody is really there to fight me for my discount eggshell blazer with diamante button <3 (btw if anybody does go to Rockdale to vintage shop. GO TO THE SMITH FAMILY STORE. They are not very good but a very hot guy works there)

The shirt! Is Valentino. Not kidding. Check the label if you want. This shirt ended up costing me around about a dollar. Ladies and gentlemen if you haven’t heard about the anglicare depot in summer hill firstly: have you been living under a rock? Secondly: go. This place is amazing, I mean you have to sort through bins and bins of crap including sparkly knit kaftans and suspiciously stained halter tops but when you find something good-it’s awesome. The best thing about anglicare depot is the fact that you can buy a kilo of clothing for six dollars. And this friends is why I am now the proud owner of a real valentino shirt, to the sucker who threw it away “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? And thankyou”

I bought this shirt off one of my good friends (Ellen). She is a compulsive buyer/wear it once/buying more clothes and losing track of it/realising she no longer needs it and selling it to people (me). Because I get good friend prices the shirt only cost me thirty dollars even though it is a pretty pricey one from Japan. The beanie was hand knitted by Clare’s grandma and then stolen by me ^_^. The jeans are my average ‘lee’ blue skinny’s which have been cuffed at the ankle. And of course my ray ban wayfarers (which are the loves of my life(yes they are expensive but they were a gift(alright my mum bought them for me but she left me alone during my hsc and fled to Europe(ok I may have begged for them)))). This outfit was made for nothing special, I just wore it to uni today, but I got a lot of compliments on it so I was like OHAY LETS BLOG. And then I did.

space jump

Hey kids, Alex here. So whilst I love to dress up and accessorise with jacket and such, sometimes everybody needs to chill out. Ultimately we all need to be casual at some point of our weeks, I’m sure Anna Wintour gets home sometimes, throws on some sweats and chill out with some ice cream and will and grace. This is one of my many chill out-fits. I am wearing my dad’s old oversized triple j tee shirt with a print of an exploding head, second hand jean shorts and football socks. This outfit means I can go to the shops if need be and be ready for unexpected guests who happen to pop by ^_^. Nothing very special, but it’s comfortable.
