turbania

The recent premiere of the film Sex and the City 2 has sparked much argument over the value of the film, whether people thought it was good, bad, hysterical or even somewhat racist the one thing everyone has agreed upon (to my knowledge) that the fashion was a complete eyegasm and definitely worth the fifteen bucks. Whilst sitting there and watch the uncomfortably long scenes play out I sat and “couldn’t help but wonder” how much Middle Eastern fashion has become so influential in today’s fashion etiquette. As shown by them staunching through the Abu Dhabi desert decked out a Patricia Field extravaganza.

This style is a blend of Indian, Middle Eastern and 1920’s style with the recent trend of turbans being worn. This style in application employs a heavy use of vibrant colour and patterns-red being a main colour priority. This style has come into high fashion over the past few years with the help of Miuccia Prada and John Galliano with their runway shows sporting turbans, vibrant colour and belting at the waist.

The beaded Cat.

I know what you're thinking 'The beaded cat? Seriously? WHAT KIND OF OUTFIT FITS UNDER THAT DESCRIPTION?'

Well I'll answer that query: 'The awesome kind.'

Or at very least the almost painfully hipster kind that are so ugly I can legitimately refer to them as 'awesome' without getting accosted by complaints.

Anyway: Here goes.

The outfit basically consists of a second hand beaded, fuzzy, shoulder padded monstrosity of a jumper (which was like wearing...you guessed it, a beaded cat), a $15 dollar 'myer basic' dress (but a plain black skirt would probably work as well) my famed combat boots (now a little worse for wear) and a ushanka I stole of the person hosting the party I was at (resourceful no?).

Ok so things that I love in the outfit (and generally seem popular, thank you Alex) include: The shoulder pads (I am beginning to wonder what I did with my life before they were suddenly allowed to be worn again, probably flouncing around in sundresses made by my mother/stolen from my siblings), the fuzziness (beyond me why), the contrast between the generally girly top and the much more grungy boots and hat. The fact that this outfit saw me through the entire night of a party and a number of riveting games of Ping Pong.

Alex likens it to this: What with the furry hats and blonde hair. This was basically an excuse for me to put a picture of skinny beautiful people on here to take up space and make up for my supreme lack of blogging.

Peace out gang.
