So over the past couple of months you would have to be living under a rock to not notice that the nineties are back in style. Boyfriend jeans, long summer dresses, band tee shirts, tartan, crucifixes and double denim are all back in style. Boys layering shirts and light wash jeans in a lazy but cool Kurt Cobain style, girls are growing out their layers and wearing their hair long with red lips and sporting the “I don’t give a fuck” look as coined by stylcon Drew Barrymore in ‘Poison Ivy”. The look is casual with a sense of androgyny, this redefinition of cool is one I am well in favour of and will hopefully make up for that Gladiator sandals period.
look1. the large tan coat-$4.50 from asquith opshop. tartan shirt worn as dress-belonged to my father. headscarf-$2-asquith op shop
look2. ksubi jacket-$50 from warehouse sale, tartan shirt-marikos mothers, ralph lauren shorts- roughly a dollar from anglicare depot.
look3. bruce springsteen shirt-roughly a dollar from anglicare depot. fringed leather jacket- stolen from costume department. white dress- altered second hand skirt.
look4. burce springsteen tee shirt (again), light wash cheap monday skinny jeans-$90 from incu, colorado boots-$150 from collorado.
look5. black cotton singlet dress- $20 from myer, second hand print blazer- anglicare depot and standard brown belt.
So go and find your dads old shirts, visit anglicare depot and find something that will prompt you to say " that is so hideous" followed almost immediately by "i must own that". Go and rent "kids", toussle your hair, find your look and dont spend too much- ever.
